After the Oktoberfest which is held annually in Munich, the Stuttgart Beer Festival comes a close second. Like its big brother, Oktoberfest, this festival also takes place end September and had its origins in 1818 to celebrate a harvest after a famine year.
168th Stuttgart Beer Festival will be celebrated in Wasen again!

What Happens: The festival is opened by the traditional tapping of barrels by the mayor of the state capital. What follows is two weeks of fun and frolic, fetes and fairs, rollercoaster rides and elaborate floats, music and dance and of course the great mellow yellow liquid - beer! All in all the festival is a true display of the local cultural traditions. It also houses the largest and best festival tents accommodating upto 5,000 visitors in each tent.

Residents take to the streets and Stuttgart is overrun by visitors (a mind boggling 5 million of them), are drawn in to take part in this two week long party.

What you can do: Shop what you desire at the Wasen Huckster's market, enjoy the haunted houses, racy water rides and the world largest transportable Ferris wheel or come with your family on Wednesdays as the fair belongs to the family.

Family:
Wednesday is considered as family day at the festival. Kids can enjoy free face painting, balloon artists along with other fun activities.
The festival parade on the opening Friday can be enjoyed by families where up to 3,500 participants, tractors, ancient craft guilds and different animals can be enjoyed by kids as well as adults.

Kids:
Kids menu that feature kids special portions are also offered by many enterprises.
Kids can enjoy rides at the carnival where the parents are allowed to accompany them free of charge.
There are arrangements made for free-of-charge restrooms that include baby changing rooms as well.
A child collection point run by German Red Cross is also made where lost kids are cared for and can be picked up by their families.

Wheelchair users:
There are good arrangements made for the wheel chair users as they can get wide-space disabled car parking directly at the main entrance of the Cannstatter Volksfest with access to the festival site on the same level. On presenting the certificate of disability with mark ‘G’ the parking is free.
