Where: Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu
The Natyanjali Dance Festival is a festival dedicated to Lord Nataraj, the dancing manifestation of Lord Shiva. This five-day long festival starts from the day of Maha Shivaratri. Organised by the Tourism Department of Tamil Nadu and the Natyanjali Trust, this event is an entire celebration of - Dance!
The festival is held annually at the Nataraj Temple in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. The pillars of the temple draw our attention to the postures of Lord Nataraj performing Bharatnatayam. The Natyanjali Dance festival has dancers coming from all over the country to present their talent and to offer their dance to Lord Nataraj. Dressed in traditional attire, they reflect the rich and diverse culture of India through their dances. The temple provides an ideal backdrop for the event as the performances take place in the vicinity of the holy sanctum. The Natyanjali Dance Festival spreads the message of ‘unity in diversity’ by bringing many prominent dancers together under one platform.
