2018 King's Cup Elephant Polo

When: To be confirmed
Where: Hua Hin, Thailand

If you have a fascination for a game that is different and borders on being odd, then elephant polo will perhaps interest you. The King’s Cup Elephant Polo takes place in Hua Hin in Thailand and will be celebrating its 11th anniversary this year at Hua Hin's Suriyothai Army Base.

Elephant Polo is similar to the standard game of Polo but with certain interesting variants - each team is made up of three players. They ride on elephant back and carry a mahout (elephant trainer), they use a two metre long mallet to hit a standard sized polo ball over a pitch that is 100 metres by 60 metres, and if you happen to be a lady playing, you can use two hands to handle the mallet.

The Kings Elephant Polo event attracts teams from all over the world because of its peculiarity. The event flags off with an impressive opening parade through the main streets of Hua Hin. Other highlights include Thailand’s last ‘elephant spirit men’ (Kru Ba Yai), traditional dancers, a baby elephant camp, and a wide range of food and drinks to tantalize your taste buds.

The evenings after the game are a round of cocktail parties and dinners that are very much a part of this sporting event, and with free entry for all, Kings Cup Elephant Polo has got something for everyone!
