Getting Around San Francisco In San Francisco, public transport is a convenient and inexpensive way to get around town. Parking is expensive and too many one-way streets makes driving around inconvenient. The city has a range of public transit services to choose from: San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI) has a network of buses, cable cars, streetcars and subways, which cover the whole city. MUNI passports valid for unlimited travel within the city are available for one day, three days and seven days. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) trains connect the city to the East Bay areas.
You could rent a car and be independent. Do remember parking is expensive and difficult to get. Taxis are expensive and not easily available in every neighborhood. If you are the active, athletic type, consider renting a cycle - be warned that climbing uphill can be quite a task.
