How to Get to Cappadocia by Air

Cappadocia is well connected with two airports -Erkilet Airport in the ancient Kayseri (70 kms/ 1 hour from Gerome) and Kapadokya Airport in Nevsehir (40 kms/40 minutes from Gerome). However, if you wish to drive down to Cappadocia and explore the scenic and amazing landscapes yourself then you can also arrive at the Ankara Airport and from here hire a cab or rent a car. The driving distance is 220 kms and it wil take you nearly 3 hours to get to Cappadocia. Right outside the airport, you will find a number of car rental agencies and you can always bargain for a better deal.

After getting off at Erkilet and Kapadokya airport, hire a cab (taxi fares are generally very high); rent a car to drive down (be sure that you have a proper map as your guide) or simply buy a seat in the shuttle van provided by the Turkish Airlines. Argeus Travel and Tourism Agency provides excellent shuttle services for the travellers. Shuttle fares are reasonable and the driver is aware of all locations of Cappodocian towns and hotels. In order to book your seat in a shuttle van, reservations are to be made in advance. From the Erkilet Airport, Argeus Kayseri Airport Shuttle Bus charges 15 YTL per person to take you to Urgup and 17 YTL to get you to other towns in Cappadocia. From the Kapadokya Airport, Argeus Nevsehir Airport Shuttle Bus charges 15 YTL per person. There are no charges for infants and children from 3-12 years of age get a discount upto 50%.

There is no railhead in Cappadocia.

How to Get to Cappadocia by Bus

If you wish to travel by a bus then there is no direct bus service to Cappadocia, you will have to arrive at Ankara first and then take a coach to Urgup (Cappadocia). However, there are buses which ply to Cappadocia daily from other neighbourinng cities of Turkey as well. There are frequent minibuses running everyday too. You could even hire a car to drive down to Cappadocia from Izmir, Istanbul, Ephesus, Kusadasi, Antalya and Ankara.

Getting Around Cappadocia

Bus and mini-bus services are the best way to explore the city. Travelling by public transport in the small town of Cappadocia makes sightseeing much easier.

Belediye Bus Corp minibuses charge nominal amount like somewhere between €0.80 to €1.10 depending on where you take the bus from and where you get off. The buses and mini buses operate between 8 am to 6 am. However, the public transport is less frequent on a Sunday. If you wish to travel to the nearby cities- Nevsehir, Goreme and Uchisar then, a municipal council bus (known as Belediye) also operates from 7 am to 6 pm and charges somewhere between €0.40 and €1.10 again depending on where you get on and off.
