How to Get to Lisbon

How to Get to Lisbon by Air

Lisbon has the main international airport in Portugal, the Portela Airport, serviced by TAP and other major world airlines. To get to the city centre, a twenty minute drive away, take the Aerobus which runs a regular service from 7am-9pm. Taxis are also cheap. If you want to be independent, then rent a car at the airport desk or even before you reach through a car rental company.

How to Get to Lisbon by Rail

Lisbon’s new and stupendous Oriente Station has trains coming from Madrid and Paris, and continuing onto the older Santa Apolonia.

How to Get to Lisbon by Bus

International buses arrive regularly at the city’s main bus terminal, as well as at the Renex bus terminal – a short bus ride away from Praca dos Restauradores. Most of the buses coming here start at the north or the Algrave.

Getting Around Lisbon

Owing to the hilly topography and pebbly sidewalks, Lisbon is not a city to be explored by foot although you may be tempted to do so. Instead, choose between one of these modes of getting around the city.

By bus or tram:

From 6 am till midnight, you can use the bus or tramway network. You can purchase a daily pass for unlimited rides on these for as little as Euro 2. If you go in for the Passe Turistico, you can extend the discount to travel on the metro as well.

By subway:

The Metropolitano runs between 6 pm and 1:30 am and can be traversed endlessly with a ticket for approximately Euro 1.

By ferry:

Ferries start at the Fluvian Terminal and carry you across the Tagus River to the Praca do Comercia, the suburb of Cacilhas and Belem. Even if you have alternate options for travel, this would be a great idea just for the fantastic view and a scenic tour of the city.
