How to Reach Agra

How to Reach Agra by Air

Agra has its own airport by the name of Agra Civil Enclaves also known as Kheria Airport but flight operations are erratic at best. It is advisable to check if airlines are operating flights when you are planning your trip.

The closest airport otherwise would be Delhi which is 204 km from Agra. From Delhi one can either hire a cab or catch a train to reach Agra. It takes around 4 hours to reach Agra from Delhi by road and if travelling by the express trains, it takes just 2 hours. The Shatabdi Express and the Taj Express are the two fast trains from Delhi to Agra.

How to Reach Agra by Rail

The city has two railway stations of which Agra Cantonment is the larger. Apart from the Shatabdi Express there are many super fast expresses connecting Agra with Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Agra Cantonment Railway Station: Some of the trains which connect Agra with Delhi at this station are Taj Express, Shatabdi Express, Gondwana Express and Jhelum Express. Many tourists coming from Delhi take the Shatabdi Express, which arrives at around 8 in the morning and returns at 08:15 at night, allowing for a one-day trip. Commuting from the railway station to the rest of the city is very simple as lots of options are available for the travellers such as auto rickshaws, taxis, tempos and cycle rickshaws. Also being located in the close proximity of the Idgah bus stand makes the travellers life much simpler. It is closest to most good hotels, and also has a tourist information counter.

Agra Fort Railway Station : The station is mainly served by Western Railways and many of the express trains and mails connect this station. The famous Palace on Wheels passes through this station. Agra Fort bus stand is the nearest bus stand and the airport is only 5 km away from it. The travellers who enter the city through this station can visit many spots such as the Agra Fort, Jama Masjid, etc.

How to Reach Agra by Bus

Agra is located just 204 km away from the national capital city, Delhi. The city is connected to Mathura (56 kms), Delhi (203 kms), Gwalior (118 kms), Jaipur (237 kms) and several other major cities.

There are UP State Road Transport (UPSRTC) as well as private buses plying to and from Agra. The main bus terminus is the Idgah Bus stand, which stands close to the Agra Cantonment station. Bijlighar Bus Stand (also called Powerhouse Bus Stand) is located near the Red Fort and is 6 km from the Taj. One can also drive in from Delhi, either by a rented car or one''s own. There are lots of luxury bus and taxi services which provide excellent services to the commuters. Driving from Delhi through the well maintained national highway NH 2 connecting Delhi and Agra is a driver’s delight!

Getting Around Agra

Commuting within Agra to the tourist spots is really simple. One can easily find AC as well as Non AC taxis at the airport, railway station, and also near the hotels. Apart from the taxis, un-metered auto rickshaws, cycle rickshaws can be easily found across the city at cheap and negotiable rates. If one does not wish to spend much money in commuting, they can opt for the shared taxis and auto rickshaws.

Apart from the rented cars, local buses are also available but they are few in number thus are crowded which makes the journey inconvenient. Thus it is better to either opt for a hired cab or auto rickshaws which are easily available. Be prepared to bargain with the drivers or you may be taken literally for a ride!
