History
Ooty Lake is an artificial lake located in the heart of Ooty in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu. It covers an area of 65 acres and is an ideal place for boating and recreation, especially in summers. The Boat House situated by the lake, which offers boating facilities to the tourists, is a major tourist attraction here.
The lake was created by John Sullivan by damming the mountain streams flowing down the Ooty valley. The entire lake is surrounded by Eucalyptus trees that add to its exquisiteness. During summer seasons, in May, several boat races are organised at the Ooty Lake which draw huge crowds.
Tourists also visit the Boat House adjoining the lake, which is a prime attraction of the Ooty Lake. Here one can hire different types of boats. At the Boat House end is a deer park, a mini-garden, and an amusement park featuring a toy train. A well laid footpath encircles the entire Ooty Lake. Just outside the Boat House local ponies are available for jolly rides at a charge.
Tourists visiting Ooty can halt at the Ooty Lake and have a wonderful time with family.
