|
The Chilka Lake in Orissa is Asia’s largest inland salt-water lagoon studded with small islands, separated from the Bay of Bengal by a sandy ridge. Spread across 1100 sq km, it has a unique ecosystem with a large number of aquatic flora and fauna found in and around its brackish waters one of the rarest being the Irrawady dolphins. White bellied sea eagles, grey-legged geese, purple moorhen; jacana, herons and flamingos make it a bird watcher’s delight. The islands are not great for bird watching but offer an exceptional romantic view of the sunrise and sunset.
