The Salim Ali Bird Interpretation Centre at Kuriarty offers immense occasions for all bird fans to study and learn the birds found in the Western Ghats of the country. The gallery provides a wonderful listing of birds ranging from ordinary birds of India, birds of Western Ghats, birds of Kerala and those of Parambikulam.

A large number of birds can be found in the centre, which is definitely an eye delight for a bird lover. Total of 268 birds are recorded in the centre, with 134 species listed as rare. 12 out of the total 16 endemic bird species are also found in the centre. Further, to detail out one can see birds like Lesser Adjustant, Grey headed fishing eagle, Peninsular bay owl, Broad billed roller, Great pied hornbill, Lesser Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Great Black Woodpecker, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Black-capped Kingfisher, Ceylon Frogmouth, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Malay Night-Heron, Oriental Darter, etc.

The place is an ideal stop for anyone who would like to spend a day with Nature!!

Best time to visit

The best time to visit the place is post monsoons between August and February when the forests are lush green and the surroundings add further charm to it!


Bird lovers call this centre as one of the best places to enjoy innumerable species of birds living in their natural habitat. It also provides one a complete natural package to rejuvenate oneself.


Although the centre can be visited between 7:00 am to 6:00 pm the entry closes at 4:00 pm
