History
Located 24 kms away from Mysore the Brindavan Gardens are beautifully laid near the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam that is built across the river Cauvery. These Gardens are popular amongst tourists visiting Mysore and are enriched with terraces, musical fountains, lush green lawns, trees/shrubs and colourful flower beds.
The Krishnaraja Sagar Dam was constructed by Sir Mirza Ismail, the chief financial officer of Mysore and as a part of beautification of the dam site, he developed Brindavan Gardens. Built in a terraced fashion, the construction of the Brindavan Gardens began in 1927 and completed in 1932. The Gardens are designed in a Mughal style and are built on the similar lines to that of Shalimar Gardens in Kashmir. The Garden is laid out in three terraces and you can spend a day relaxing and checking out this interesting botanical park that includes Ficus trees and flowering plants like celosia, marigold, bougainvillea etc. Other than this you can also enjoy the boat rides beneath the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam.
The garden also features a statue of Goddess Cauvery, horticultural farm and nursery, fisheries pond, the Hydraulic Research Station and is well-visited by tourists visiting Mysore.
