Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary was set up in 1932, and this 321 sq km park boasts of a wide variety of wildlife in an equally large variety of habitat like swamps, evergreen forest and grassland. The Mudumalai Park has one of the highest concentrations of elephant in the whole of South India. Other animals that roam this wildlife park include the elusive tiger, panther, wild dogs, gaur, sambhar, deer, wild boar, civets, macaques and monitor lizard.
