Davangere Travel Guide

Located on the national highway 4, in the heart of Karnataka at a distance of about 265kms from Bangalore is Davangere town. The town, which has been carved out of Chitradurga, Shimoga, and Bellary districts, lies on the border of the Deccan Plateau just above the Chitradurga district.

Famous for its textiles and educational institutes, Davangere, an industrial town is renowned for its cloth mills, and granary, and is popularly known as the Textile capital of the South.

Interestingly Davangere has been derived from the term Davana Kere meaning village of lakes where the term Davana stands for village and kere means lake.

The city is also known as the Manchester of the South owing to the cotton mills in the city.

Ayyana Kere and Jagular kere are the two lakes that provide water and the electricity to the city.

When in the city don’t forget to grab a bite of benne dosa or butter dosa – the city speciality.
