History
Bangalore the IT hub of India is not only famous for its technological domains but also is the abode of rich history. In the pulsating City Market of Bangalore lays the Fort of Tipu Sultan, the Emperor of Mysore. The fort dates back to 1537. It was initially constructed by Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bangalore. Later, the Fort was completed by Hyder Ali and then by his son Tip Sultan. It stands as a reminder of the struggle between the Indian and the British authority.
The art and architecture of the Tipu Sultan Fort follows the Islamic style. The major attraction of the Fort is the well –preserved 16th Century Ganapati Temple that clearly highlights the religious tolerance of the Emperor.
Within the interior of the Fort lies the Tipu Sultan Palace, famously known as the Summer Palace of the Emperor. The two-storied Palace is entirely built of teakwood and is a retreat in the hot summers. It is adorned with beautiful floral motifs. On either side of the Palace are beautiful gardens, which lead to its main entrance. Tipu Sultan conducted his administerial sessions here. But after his death the Palace was used by the British as their secretariat, till the year 1867. One of the carvings on its pillars entitles it as an "Abode of Happiness.
