Patnitop

History

Patnitop is a serene and beautiful place located in Udhampur District of Jammu and Kashmir. The name of the place is derived from the Ponds of Princesses which existed in the meadows. In olden times princesses use to take their bath in this pond. Part of this pond still exists in Patnitop. Historians believed that Patnitop was discovered by Britishers as their summer getaway destination.

Patnitop is famous for its Nag Temple which is believed to have been built in the 6th century. With its picturesque location, Patnitop has many beautiful pathways around the hills to take a quiet walk in the serenity of woods. One can spend an entire day at Shiva Garh located 11 kms away from Patnitop. It is also linked with Kud and Batote which has ice springs having medicinal properties that heal. The evenings at Patnitop are cold and walking across the foggy lanes is a tourist’s visual delight.
