History
The Vechaar Utensil Museum was established on 27th April, 1981, within the precincts of Vishalla, a restaurant on the outskirts of the city of Ahmedabad. The museum was started with an endeavour to preserve our valuable ancient vessels.
A unique museum in its own right, Vechaar Utensil Museum houses a collection of over 3000 utensils used by the various households of India. The utensils displayed here include pots that store water, utensils for cooking and serving, vessel for churning buttermilk, spoons, rolling pins, storage jars, nutcracker, infants’ feeding cups, knives and tantric havan kunds. Also present are pottery, terracotta and wooden articles. The exhibits collected from across the country have been displayed here around a simple courtyard. The collection here is personal to Mr Surendra Pal, also the curator and designer of the museum. Photography is not allowed inside the museum.
