Hutheesing Jain Temple

One of the finest examples of Jain architecture, Hutheesing Jain Temple in Ahmedabad is one of the must-visit places in the city. Built in 1848AD, the beautiful Jain temple is a two-storey structure and is dedicated to the 15th tirathankar of Jainis – Dharamnath.

Constructed out of white marble, the Hutheesing Jain Temple was built by a rich Jain merchant Seth Hutheesing and is considered as one of the remarkable pieces of art in the city. The Hutheesing Jain Temple situated outside the renowned Delhi Gate in the city is a magnificent temple complex with a huge dome, protruding porches on three sides with brilliantly decorated columns and figural bracket, paved courtyards and arcades that enclose 52 shrines.

Mahavir Stambha, which is 78ft in height, is a recent addition to this beautiful temple and has been inspired from the well-known tower at Chittor in Rajasthan. The tower is situated at the front entrance of the temple. Some of the motifs in the tower design are reminiscent of the Sultanate minarets of the Mughal period.

This striking Jain temple is very popular for its intricate carvings and abundant architectural designs, thus making it a must-visit temple in the city of Ahmedabad.
