History
The Candolim Beach is one of the most popular beaches in the heavenly city of Goa and is located in Old Goa region. The Candolim Beach begins at Fort Aguada and merges with the Calangute Beach towards the end, and is thus one of the longest beaches in the state.
The beach like all other Goan beaches is very calm and peaceful. The sand, the sea, and the scrub covered dunes at the back of the beach makes for a picture postcard setting and is popular among foreigners and locals equally. The beach also appeals to the adventurers and thrill seekers by providing multiple water-sports activities right from parasailing to water-skiing, wind surfing and so on. People interested in fishing can book special beach excursions where a tourist is taken right to the core of the sea from where he can fish and also enjoy the scenic beauty. The beachside is lined with multiple bars and restaurants and is a hub for the people in their early 20’s. People visiting these bars generally try Feni which is a local alcoholic drink made from cashew. These bars and restaurants also offer the visitors a taste of the exquisite and really spicy Goan cuisine.
The Aguada Fort was built by the Portuguese way back in 1912 and is another attraction on the Candolim beach. It was used for fortification against the Dutch and the Maratha invaders. Along with the fort, the church, lighthouse and the garrison of the Aguada Jail are some more places one should visit while at the beach.
