History
The Indian Air Force Museum, situated at the Palam Air Force Station in New Delhi belongs to the Indian Air Force. The museum was one of its kind in India, prior to the unveiling of the Naval Aviation Museum in Goa in 1998.
The entrance to the museum is characterised by an indoor display gallery that houses historic photographs, memorabilia, uniforms and personal weapons of the Indian Air Force, right from its formation in the year 1932. Connected to the gallery is a hangar that contains several small aircrafts and Air Force inventory like Anti-Aircraft Guns, Vehicles and Ordnance. The larger aircrafts are exhibited outside the hangar. Also on display in the outdoor gallery are several war trophies, Radar equipment and captured enemy vehicles.
The Vintage Aircraft Flight is tasked with servicing several rare aircrafts, and keeping them in an airworthy condition. These aircrafts are not open to the general public for viewing. The larger transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force Museum are stored on the apron of the airbase due to lack of space, with accessibility by the public restricted only to the annual Air Force Day.
