Where to Stay in Kaziranga

There is a wide range of places to stay at the park ranging from luxury resorts to rest houses, tourist lodges and dormitories. Most are maintained by the ITDC or the Forest Department, and there are some privately owned properties too. Accommodation at state-run forest lodges must be booked in advance at the park headquarters. You will have to contact the Joint Director of Tourism, Kaziranga, P.O. Kaziranga National Park, Dist. Jorhat, Assam for your reservations.

Private accommodation is available in the form of a luxury resort where rooms can be booked for minimum Rs 1100 per night (the rates may vary, cross check before booking). These lodges charge extra money for your elephant rides, cameras and for permitting alcoholic beverage. Few good accommodation options in Kaziranga are mentioned below.

The first one is an eco resort, Grassland Resort. This resort is located in close proximity to the wildlife reserve. The rooms and cottages offered by the resort are well furnished with eco-friendly material.

Wild Grass Lodge, located outside Kaziranga National Park is about 200 kms from Guwahati. This attractive rural style hotel has more than 40 species of trees over 200 species of shrubs, creepers and climbers. It will take you 6 hours to drive from Guwahati to this property.

The Kaliabor Manor, which is at a short walking distance from the Kaziranga National Park provides you the option to stay in their heritage bungalow or cottages. It can provide accommodation for 20 guests in four heritage rooms and six private cottages. The cottages have private garden and an outside deck for sunbathing, DVD player and a minibar. The property is 155kms from Guwahati.

Diphlu River Lodge is other luxury option that offers comfortable accommodation. Diphlu River Lodge is situated on National Highway 37, which is 220 kms east of Guwahati. The lodge is set on the edge of River Diphlu that forms the boundary to Kaziranga National Park. Emerald Hotel and Resort is situated about 225 kms from Guwahati that provides decent services and will make your stay a comfortable one. Other such good options are Iora Resort, Landmark Woods and Bonhabi Resort.
