Best Time to Visit Assam |
The best time to visit Assam would be November to May when cool winds from the Himalayan foothills temper the heat and humidity. March to May is when the orchids are in bloom; the people are joyous and festive and the Bihu (harvest festival) drums resonate in the valley. Assam is best avoided during the rains (June to September) when heavy downpours cause the Brahmaputra River to flood its banks all across the state.

Climate
The climate of Assam is humid and subtropical. Rainfall is extremely heavy, about 1800 to nearly 2500 mm (about 70 to nearly 100 inches) annually. The average temperature in January ranges from 10°C to 23° Celsius (50° F to 73° Fahrenheit) and in July it ranges from 26° C to 32° Celsius (79° F to 90° Fahrenheit). Assam is subject to floods and earthquakes. Avoid visiting in the monsoons, as transportation gets disrupted and you may be stranded indefinitely.
