History
Located in Nagarjunakonda, the Ethipothala Waterfalls flow down the hills from a height of 22 meters, and is one of the most visited tourist spots in Andhra Pradesh. Formed from the merging tributaries of River Krishna, namely, Chandravanka Vagu, Nakkala Vagu and Tummala Vagu, Ethipothala Waterfalls are a joyful spectacle of the power and beauty of nature.
The alluring, blue lagoon formed at the foot of the waterfalls houses a crocodile breeding centre which is managed by the Forest Department of Andhra Pradesh and is opened to the public. The waterfall flows for about 3km and further joins River Krishna again. There are two temples positioned near Ethipothala Waterfalls, dedicated to Ranganadha Swami and Dattatreya Swami. One will also come across some small caves besides the waterfalls. It is believed that these caves lead to Srisailam, the dwelling place of Bhramarambika Mallikarjuna Swami.
The peaceful and relaxing atmosphere in which Ethipothala Waterfalls are situated gives the travellers a pleasant experience of their visit. It is also an ideal spot for trekking, camping and for nature lovers who seek a refreshing change. Towards sunset, these waterfalls are lit up with vibrant lights, making the Ethipothala Waterfalls an awesome sight!
