History
Snow World is an amusement park, spread over an area of 2 acres in the city of Hyderabad. The park is an indoor one; located adjacent to the Indira Park, with the Hussain Sagar Lake flowing besides it. Snow World was inaugurated on January 28, 2004 by the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu. In the construction of the park, around two-hundred tonnes of artificial snow was spread on the floor, prepared specially to prevent melting of the ice. The top layer of snow is cleaned daily, replaced by another two to three tonnes of snow that is generated in the facility itself. The artificial snow is prepared using a patented technology from Australia, wherein the water is filtered four times before being utilized, thus protecting against health hazards to children, who may accidently or deliberately consume it.
With a capacity of around 2400 visitors per day, Snow World acclimatizes its visitors to the cold in a step wise manner, beginning with 20°C, then 0°C, before finally achieving a sub-zero temperature. Besides this, the visitors are given protective clothing and a steaming cup of soup to help them protect themselves against the cold. There is also an internal area known as the Cryo Zone, wherein a constant temperature of - 5°C is maintained. The park can accommodate a maximum of 300 visitors at a time for one hour, enough time to explore the different facilities such as a snow play area, merry-go-round snow wars, ice-bumping cars, snow tube slide, sleigh slide and an ice skating rink.
A snowfall feature was subsequently added to the park, wherein visitors are exposed to snowfall for ten minutes for every hour. Also opened to the public was a 40,000 square feet kart racing, built at a cost of Rs 2.5crores. The indoors of Snow World bear similarities to the insides of a cave, designed using plaster of Paris and provided with a fresh air system for uninterrupted supply of fresh air.
