History
Nehru Zoological Park, also known as the Hyderabad Zoo, was established in 1959 and opened for public visits 4 years later in 1963. Managed by the Forest Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Nehru Zoological Park is home to various species, and strives for being at the forefront in India for constructing up to date habitats for the animals. Some of its initiatives include the all-embracing safari parks and the environment for nocturnal animals.
The main responsibilities undertaken at the Hyderabad Zoo involve breeding and rehabilitation of the endangered species of animals while encouraging their connection with the fauna of the Deccan plateau; conducting educational programs to increase awareness about the security of wildlife among the masses and lastly, conducting investigations apropos wildlife conservation and supervision.
The authorities at Hyderabad Zoo even boast about having effectively bred foreign and native animals and birds in confinement like the Indian rhino, tiger, panther, Asiatic lion, gaur, crocodile, orangutan, and python. To offset the attenuation of the natural populations, the zoo authorities have also bred numerous animals and rehabilitated them in a variety of deer parks and sanctuaries for their proliferation and growth.

The place can be visited anytime of the year; however, the best time to visit Hyderabad Zoo is in the winter months between October and February.

April to June – 8:00 am to 5:30 pm
July to March - 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
The zoo remains closed on Mondays.
