How to Get to Nuremberg by Air

Nürnberg International Airport is well connected to other countries including Germany and Europe via 70 direct flights. The airport lies 7 km away from the main city of Nuremberg. AirBerlin, AirFrance, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines are the airlines operating to and from Nuremberg. The city’s airport also has flights to a number of European cities, in addition to chartered flights.

From the airport you can get to the city centre by taking an underground train line, a taxi, bus shuttle service or simply hiring a car from one of the many car rental agencies located at the airport. The underground station (line U2), taxi stands and car rental companies are located right next to the arrival and departure terminals of the airport.

If you are travelling by a taxi, then it will take you to city centre in about 15 minutes and the charge will be somewhere around €15. If you wish to book a taxi in advance then call the Nuremberg Taxi Center at +49 911 1 94 10.

How to Get to Nuremberg by Rail

The Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof (main railway station) has connections to most major German cities. The station is always busy and crowded because it is a hub for local public transport as well. The main train station lies very close to the Old Town Nuremberg.

How to Get to Nuremberg by Bus

Nuremberg is well connected to all its neighbouring cities with a major network of inter-connecting motorways. You can get to the city by bus or by car (the A9 autobahn, going north-south, links the city to Berlin and Munich and A3 running west and north-west of Nuremberg). Carry a local map of the city with directions and get familiar with the motorways; you surely won’t have a problem getting to the city.

Getting Around Nuremberg

Within Nürnberg, a rented car or bicycle is a good way to move around, as is the local subway and the VGN bus, tram transport and the underground U-Bahn/S-Bahn networks; the city’s main tourist attractions, though, are so close together that you might even consider seeing them on foot.

Buses and trams are popular means of getting around in the city. Buy a local map of the city where you will find all the bus routes and bus spots. The old fashioned trams are equally safe and convenient for travel. There are about six tramways operating in the city.

The underground train network known as the U-Bahn and the S-Bahn is fast, cheap, safe and very efficient.

Tickets on the VGN bus, tram and U-Bahn/S-Bahn networks cost €1.40/1.80 depending upon the ride-short or long. One day pass will cost you somewhere around €3,60.

Taxis are very convenient for travelling within the city, especially if you are not good at giving directions. Go by the meter where the starting rate would be somewhere around €2, 50.

If you wsh to rent a car and drive around the city, then it is possible to do so. There are a number of car parks available in the city where you can easily park the rented cars. Traffic is not a hassle here. Bicycle can be hired from Ride on a Rainbow, located on Adam-Kraft-Strasse with the per day charge of €10-18.
