There are a host of hostels, back-packers inns and guesthouses in the city centre. Budget travellers can look at staying at the Sydney Harbour YHA, Blue Parrot Backpackers or Sydney Youth Hostel is a great way to save your money. Caravan parks are a bit outside the city but there are two or three within a 20 km range.
