The Tour de France is an annual bicycle race that takes place every year in the month of July. The race lasts for about three weeks starting from 30th June to 22nd July in 2012 and attracts professional cyclists from all over the globe to come and take part in this famed event.

The racing event covers a distance of 3,600 kilometres throughout France and its neighboring countries and is segregated into 21 different stages. The racing route keeps changing year after year but the finishing point remains the same- Paris. The Tour de France is the most prestigious cycling events held in France every year, enticing people from all over to come and witness the ultimate racing competition.

According to The New York Times the "Tour de France is arguably the most physiologically demanding of athletic events." The efforts put in by the participants in the racing event was compared to "running a marathon several days a week for nearly three weeks", while the total elevation of the climbs was compared to "climbing three Everests."
