In February each year, residents of north German towns shed their inhibitions and take to the streets dancing to wild samba beats - and you thought that the samba was a South American specialty. Well think again! The people come out to celebrate - they samba to the beats of the catchy music, all dressed up in masks and plumes. Loads of beer drinking takes place and generally everyone is happy to be merry making. In recent years this samba festival has become a very popular event and people come in from far and near to be part of this joyous occasion.
