Kala Ghoda Arts Festival Dates 2013

The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is one of the most significant cultural events of Mumbai, organised by the Kala Ghoda Association. The festival celebrates art in its diverse forms that encompass music, dance, theatre, fine art, photography, seminars, workshops, and a lot more. This nine-day festival is an attraction for tourists and has thousands of visitors coming not just from the city or country, but from across the world.


Highlights of the festival

The main attractions of the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival this year will be display of art work by some of the world renowned artists like Brinda Miller, Tobias Megerie, and Krsna Mehta. The ‘3D Street Art’ by Tracy Lee Stum is one of the key highlights under visual arts.

This year the festival has introduced a new culinary section ‘Food Art’ where well known chefs and experts like Rahul Akerkar, Milind Sovani, Alex Sanchez and others, will be giving live demonstrations on varied cuisines and hosting workshops as well.

The Literature Section will host poetry sessions, book launches, workshops, and panel discussions with authors like Kiran Nagarkar, Deepti Naval, Naresh Fernandes, Pritish Nandy and many others.

The festival will have music and dance performances by distinguished artists and groups ranging from classical to contemporary and Indian Folk to international dance forms. Bollywood’s music director duo Vishal Shekhar will also be performing at the events.

The Film Section will include tributes to legendary artists including Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Jagjit Singh, Bhupen Hazarika, and eminent personalities like Rabindranath Tagore and Charles Dickens. This year a ’48 Hour Music Video Project’ has been included, where aspiring filmmakers will compete with each other to shoot a music video within 48hours which will later be judged by the jury.

Apart from these events, there are many fun-filled and learning activities for the kids to look forward to under the Children Section. Also, many heritage walks will also be organised giving the people an insight into Mumbai’s heritage.

The Kala Ghoda Arts Festival truly seeks to showcase a kaleidoscope of events that bring alive the rich culture of art in all forms!
