About Formula 1

Known as Formula One, F1 or the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, the leading class of auto racing in a single seater is certified by International Federation of Automobile. This annual racing championship sees skilled car racers from around the world taking part in this thrilling event in cars that are specially built for the purpose of racing.

These cars can go up to a speed of 360 kmph with engine revolutions that can go upto 18000 per minute. The race tracks normally are specially built circuits and in some places like Monaco and Singapore the circuit covers public roads too. The driver of the car is backed by a whole team behind the scenes that maintains the car in tip top condition.

The F1 race typically takes place over a weekend with the first two days being set aside for practice and qualifying rounds. On the last day is the actual race. The winner gets a trophy and the Super License issued by the FIA, which is considered the highest racing license of its kind.


F1 Drivers and Teams

As the Formula One race is inching closer Delhi is hitting the highest fever by receiving racing gods like Michael Schumacher, Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton, Adrian Sutil and many more from all over the world.

The Indian team Force India-Mercedes boasts a German racer Adrian Sutil and British racer Paul di Resta. Indian racers like Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok will race for Spanish team HRT-Cosworth and British team Lotus-Renault.

Team and Driver Standings

After Abu Dhabi Grand Prix the current top four teams are RBR-Renault that stands first with 491 points, MCLaren-Mercedes second with 353 points, team Ferrari is at number three with 268 points and team Mercedes bagged fourth position with 114 points.

Likewise, the top five drivers are Sebastian Vettel with 309 points, Jenson Button stands at second position with 185 points, Fernando Alonso is on third position with 184 points, Mark Webber stands fourth with 183 points and Lewis Hamilton is on fifth position with 168 points.

Trivia: Look up the serial numbers in the F1 Teams. You will notice that number ‘13’ is missing. This is because in the early years of this sport the cars with number 13 on them have suffered fatal accidents. Since then 13 is considered unlucky.


Exploring Delhi and Nearby Places

While in Delhi for F1 you can also exploring Delhi and nearby places. If you have a day you can visit the splendid Taj Mahal in Agra which is just 4 hours by road or if you want to explore Delhi you have numerous options. You can visit the well-known Red Fort which is a great sandstone fortress that portrays Mughal splendour at its best or try the serene Baha'i House of Worship - Lotus Temple. You can also appreciate the Indian art at National Museum or enjoy a perky evening at India Gate, which is a memorial for the soldiers who fought in World War One.
