Top Travel Tips On How to Survive January

January 06, 2014

It's that time of year again. Christmas and New Year celebrations have made their annual appearances and taken their usual toll on our energy levels, waistlines and bank accounts. At this time, the idea of taking off somewhere, if we have some free time, is highly appealing. Many of us, however, mindful of how much we've spent on the recent festivities are reluctant to consider it. But in fact, these early months can offer prime travel deals for those willing to take advantage of this off peak period…

Mediterranean Resorts
For sun-seekers, Spain, Italy, Greece, Tunisia and other Mediterranean countries are host to many terrific seaside resorts - all trying to make the most of the low season. Attractive discounts on travel and accommodation are plentiful during this season, and sunbathing in January is always something to boast about on your return!

City Breaks
In Europe, big cities are recommended for those in need of some cultural therapy, whether it’s the spires of London or the art galleries of Amsterdam and Rome. Or if it’s the best in January sales you’re after, try Milan or Paris and beat the seasonal blues by getting your fill of retail therapy. Discounted last minute travel deals make it easy to choose an exciting location no more than two or three hours flying time from most European airports.

Long Haul
Even world-wide destinations are offered at cut-down prices. Travel time is longer, but cheap deals to destinations such as Thailand, New York, Florida and the Caribbean can make the travelling time well worthwhile. Make sure your passport has at least six months left before it expires as many countries that require a visa won't issue one otherwise.

Cheap Getaways
January is when last minute travel deals come in quite handy especially after the stress of the Christmas period. Budget airlines and travel companies know exactly how we feel, and they compete aggressively with each other to offer us low-cost flights and holiday packages at very attractive prices. They range from local countryside or city breaks to more exotic destinations with bright sunshine and warm seas virtually guaranteed.

The less fussy you are about departure dates and destinations, the better, as you will be able to snap up some unbelievable discounts.

With so many last minute deals on offer, it’s easy to survive January and blissfully recover from the excesses of the festive season on a beach or city square somewhere far from home...
