Top Pet Friendly Holiday Destinations In The UK

January 24, 2014

As more and more people are deciding to take their pets on holiday with them, it makes perfect sense for the amount of pet friendly resorts and facilities to be steadily increasing. There are few things as rewarding as getting to enjoy a relaxing break with your furriest, cuddliest feline or canine friend. After all, up to 65% of us are happy to admit that we don't fully enjoy holidays when we leave our pets at home. Why not take your furry friend along with you next year?
Everybody deserves a holiday ~ even that fat cat that spends every afternoon sleeping and licking himself. What about your excitable border collie, the one who loves to run and scamper along the beach? As long as your pet is friendly and well behaved, there is no reason why you can't take them on holiday with you, say experts at the Telegraph. Here is a guide to just a few of the top pet friendly destinations in the UK.

The best thing about Cornwall is that it is so vast. There are huge swathes of the county that are almost completely empty, being home to nothing but rolling hills and farmland. There are no less than 296 miles of coastline spanning the border of the county too. It means endless beaches, meadows and cliff top walks for your dog. The soaring heights of St Agnes, Mawgan Porth, Port Isaac and Falmouth are all ideal places to spend time with your pet - especially if they like to stretch their legs as much as you do. There are restrictions on some beaches, so make sure that you adhere to the rules no matter where you are staying. Visit Cottages Direct for more information on the range of pet friendly cottages available in Cornwall.

Over the last decade, Norfolk has become increasingly pet friendly. The vast majority of its beaches and public parks are now happy to welcome dogs as long as they are well behaved. There are restrictions in place on some of the beaches, but lots of them are completely limitless. Why not take a long afternoon stroll along the marked routes through Sandringham and Sheringham? There is lots of beautiful woodland in the region, so it's ideal for tourists who don't mind strapping their walking boots on. Don't forget the Norfolk Broads either - one of the most environmentally rich areas of Great Britain. If you visit the Broads, you'll find that a lot of the narrow boat companies carry provisions and facilities for pets. For the right dog with the right temperament, a ride on a boat can be a wonderful thing.

Right next door to Norfolk is the dog friendly county of Suffolk. It too has a series of environmentally rich Broads, perhaps even more rich than those in Norfolk. There's the Stour, the Orwell, the Deben, the Alde and the Blythe. If your pet is the adventurous type, a narrow boat ride could be one of the most exciting experiences of their life. There are lots of people who worry about putting dogs on boats, but you'd be surprised at just how agile most pets really are. In Suffolk, there are very few restrictions on the public beaches - your dog can pretty much roam whenever and wherever he likes on the coast. Corton Sands, Dunwich Beach and Denes Beach are three stretches of coat that have no pet related restrictions whatsoever. Don't forget the plethora of magnificent pubs in the area. If your dog is well behaved, take him in for a well earned bowl of water after a rough and tough stroll through the hills.
