Making waves with Sailing Holidays

December 20, 2014

For many the option to take to the sea and enjoy a holiday on the water is just the thing to relax and contemplate life's small pleasures. For others the challenge of learning how to sail is a welcome break from the normal beach holiday abroad. Whatever your reason for looking at a holiday on the open waves there's nothing more satisfying than taking on a chartered booking.

Charter your travels
This option is often called a bareboat charter and involves hiring and sailing a yacht or boat without a crew. Those sailing get the chance to enjoy ultimate freedom to move from place to place at a speed that suits them, and all in a boat that's completely ready to set sail and go. From quiet, peaceful and relaxing small bays and coves, to dramatic open waters perfect for diving, the choice of where to sail is down to those on board. With a bareboat charter there's even the chance to enjoy a picnic on the back of the yacht, complete with the perfect view of the sun setting over the water. Although the freedom to move about at leisure is a great draw, it’s advisable to plan your route. This is not only for safety reasons, but also to help holiday makers make the most of their trip. Planning means you get to see far more at each stop and it will give you the chance to take advice on the best places to moor and visit on land.

The basics
A charter yacht will have cabins, a lounge, often called a saloon and a kitchen, known as the galley. Outdoor spaces can vary but there's often the space to enjoy a picnic or meal on deck. Bedroom numbers and sizes vary but there's a good choice when it comes to making sure every member of the family is catered for. All necessary sailing equipment is supplied including safety and navigation equipment, bed linen and kitchen essentials. Its well worth remembering that although a bareboat is sailed without a crew on board there is always backup help on hand and on water support. Meeting points can be arranged if required and holiday makers are never left to fend for themselves should a problem occur.

Choose your destination
Exploring new and exciting destinations is easy with a charter holiday with an expanding number of regions now offering moorings and support for self chartered yachts. Inspiring sights and sounds, the luxury of planning your own schedule and a range of exotic climates to choose from, is a seductive combination indeed. From the Caribbean to the South Pacific there's something to suit all experiences and all interests.

With so many options and the freedom to sail where ever and when ever, it’s hardly surprising more and more people are opting for a seafaring holiday. Action and adventure meets rest and relaxation - a perfect blend for holiday where a little bit of everything is just what's required.
