If you are travelling to the United States, do not stop with the routine touristy places like the Statue of Liberty, the Grand Canyon or Disney World. USA is a massive country and there are hundreds of little known destinations to explore regardless of what your interests are. In this article, we will take you through some of the little known sports destinations that you may have possibly never heard of.

Orange Beach, Alabama
This is a small city covering just 41.3 square kilometers and is located at the southen tip of the US state of Alabama. With a population of just about 5400 people, you may not expect to see a lot here.However, if you are a fan of soccer, baseball or even softball, this is a beautiful destination to check out. The Orange Beach Sportsplex is a 1500 person capacity stadium that regularly hosts SEC Women’s Soccer tournaments, the NCAA Division II leagues for men and women as well as various other local leagues for baseball and softball. Besides the sporting activities, Orange Beach is also a wonderful place to experience the Mardi Gras celebrations, the German Sausage fest and the local sea-food. The condo communities around Orange Beach are extremely popular with the locals while the dolphin cruises are a must-see for tourists.

Cabarrus, North Carolina
Cabarrus is unlike Orange Beach in every aspect - it is a land-locked county that covers a much larger area of 945 square kilometers and is home to over 178,000 people. The differences however end there. Like Orange Beach, Cabarrus sees swarms of tourists every year who come to watch the NASCAR races every year. This self-proclaimed hub of American Motorsports houses the massive Charlotte Motor Speedway where the NASCAR Sprint cup series takes places every year. The other major racetrack is the Concord Speedway where the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series takes place annually.

Besides NASCAR, Cabarrus also has a lot of places to relax and enjoy. This includes the Bakers Creek park, the Green Oaks golf club and the Lake Fisher reservoir. If you are travelling with kids, places like the Les Meyers park and Kannapolis Recreation park are a must-visit.

Trestles Beach, California
Unlike Cabarrus and Orange Beach which are located on the east cost of USA, the Trestles beach is in California, one of the bigger states in the western coast of the country. Every year, Trestles organizes a number of surfing competition which involve professional surfers from across the world. One of the popular events is the Hurley Pro that is organized by the Association of Surfing Professionals. However, you do not have to necessarily enjoy surfing to explore this destination. Besides the beautiful beach, Trestles also draws a lot of history buffs every year to visit the ancestral home of the former US Presi-dent, Richard Nixon. This house is also called “The Western White House” by the locals.

New Braunfels, Texas
Here is a bonus destination if you are someone who would love to indulge in some exciting activities yourself rather than watch sporting action. New Braunfels in Texas is home to two rivers - Comal and Guadalupe. Both these rivers draw tourists from across the country every year to their rafting and wa-ter-skiing courses. Besides these, visitors can also enjoy fishing or the thrills at Schlitterbahn, one of America’s greatest water parks. Most of these destinations discussed above are hardly known outside the niche crowd of travellers. However, for a tourist looking for some exotic sporting fun, these places deliver the greatest value for money in terms of fun and enjoyment.
