Chilling in Paris

August 03, 2012

Paris is beautiful anytime of the year and let nobody tell you any different. Yes, Paris in the spring time is at its best with the gardens blooming and a cool gentle breeze blowing through, but if your trip coincides with summer or even winter, Paris is Paris and better than no Paris at all! So whether you are a museum buff, wanting to stroll along the banks of the Seine, or just go there for some rest and relaxation, Paris is the place to be.

Akshai Sarin, our contributing writer took a short break in Paris before heading off to Ibiza and other European destinations on a whirlwind music tour. Music and travel are a passion with Akshai, so watch this space for more updates from him. This is his take on what rest and relaxation in Paris is all about!

The Place
We arrived in Paris via Dubai to spend two nights there. Having been there a couple of times before, and recovering from a long weekend and the flight, decided to keep the pace nice and easy (before heading out to Ibiza).

The Adventure
Day One: Our first night in Paris, we hunted out a local bar in Marais district (3rd and 4th arrondissements) - crooked lanes that once hosted the aristocracy, now adorned with little cafes, jewelry shops and bars. Just plain hungry and exhausted beyond our brains, my friend Olympe led us a small bar to do justice to a couple of cheeseboards and glasses of red.

Day Two: Aisling and I decided to chill on our second day and enjoy what little sunshine Paris offers (it had been raining) and walk around the Notre Dame area. Bought a bottle of nice wine and some Ossau Iraty cheese, one of only two sheep's milk cheese granted ‘appellation d'origine contrôlée’ status in France! Goodies in hand, we walked down to the Luxembourg Gardens and parked ourselves on a bench in between teenagers and sixty-somethings, watching the world go by. The perfect precursor to a frenetic week of meetings, music and debauchery in Ibiza!

The Way There
A one-way ticket on Emirates via Dubai. It’s the cheapest option when you buy the ticket 2 days before flying!

The Roof Above My Head
The Boucomont residence at Notre Dame. You won't find it on the web - it’s my friend’s house haha ;)

The "Must Do" things
- Visit Luxembourg Gardens - one hand clutching Ossau Iraty cheese, the other a bottle of wine.
- If there's time to see only one museum in Paris, it has to be the Musee d’Orsay. To get the best out of your time at the museum take a guided tour.
- If you are a foodie, plan a trip to Rue Mouffetard in the 5th arrondissement – a lively street lined with cafes and restaurants.
