Corbett National Park: If you’re looking for some adventure, the Corbett National Park is one of the best places to visit near Delhi. The oldest national park in India, Corbett covers an area of 520 sq km, and is located in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. It is home to the Bengal tiger, and a great place for a safari. Visitors are only allowed in specific portions of the park, so that much of its wildlife and landscape are preserved untouched.
Vrindavan: Vrindavan is one of the few places to visit around Delhi that are well known for their religious and cultural significance. The town, located in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. According to Hinduism, Lord Krishna, born in Mathura 10 km away, spent his childhood in Vrindavan. The town is full of temples that celebrate the Hindu deity.
Bhimtal: If you’re looking for tourist places around Delhi that are scenic but not so thronged with travellers, Bhimtal is a good bet. Famous for its picturesque lake with an island in the middle, Bhimtal is located in the Nainital district of Uttarakhand. Bhimtal is also home to the Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple, said to have originally been built by Bhima while the Pandavas were in exile.
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary: Another of the more adventurous Delhi weekend getaways, the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is a famous sanctuary that sees a lot of visits from migratory birds, especially during the winter. The terrain here is a mix of grasslands, woodlands, swamps and wetlands. The sanctuary is home to several hundred species of birds and plants, as well as multiple species of fish, snakes, lizards, turtles, etc.
Mukteshwar: Mukteshwar is a quiet, pretty and not so crowded tourist place near Delhi. At a distance of 50 km from Nainital, it is fairly easy to reach. The most famous and memorable attraction here is the Chauli ki Jaali, a range of cliffs that jut outwards, offering spectacular views of the valley below. Adventure seekers can also try their hands at rock climbing and rappelling here.
