Phuket town has a number of very good hotels, but be warned- most of these are fairly expensive; there are few budget properties, so if you’re looking for economy accommodation, you might need to look around a bit or check with the nearest Tourist TAT office.
Every tourist destination on the island- and some on the larger surrounding islands- has quite a range of beach resorts. Most hotel complexes are designed to offer the vacationer the perfect island holiday with private beaches, spas and sports facilities, sailing boats and boat trips to the areas around. There is some accommodation available in traditional Thai style cottages just in case you want to be away from the crowds.
