Koh Samui has dozens of exotic beaches; Chaweng, Bophut, Lamai and Maenam are the most popular beaches. Chaweng is easily the island’s heartbeat - warm and happening by day and glamorous by night. The beach is stunningly beautiful and peppered with restaurants, bars, pubs, clubs and discotheques. Dive shops on Chaweng organise water sports – canoeing, sailing, para-sailing and diving. The shallow coral reefs around Bang Po are splendid for snorkeling. You can go diving and windsurfing at Maenam, a tranquil beach in the laid-back Maenam village.
Another idyllic spot is Bo Phut, a romantic little fishing hamlet where time just stands still. Lamai beach, the second largest on Koh Samui, jostles for attention with Chaweng. The beach has a different appeal; during the day, the restaurants and bars hum with activity and at night it transforms into a wildly exciting place. Many health spas and meditation centres, a monastery and museum among other places to see transform Lamai into a happening beach.
