| | Eating Out in Chiang Mai |
| |
|
Chiang Mai may not be able to offer as wide a range of eating-houses as Bangkok, but you won’t have to go hungry either. All hotels have restaurants- serving local and international cuisines- and there are stand-alone restaurants, tea houses, and cocktail lounges too.
Great places to grab a bite include Aroon Rai near Tapae Gate which is moderately priced and offers great Thai food, Aum Vegetarian on Moon Muang road (opposite Tapae Gate)
The House Restaurant in Moon Muang is great for some truly exceptional Asian Fusion and other international cuisine. Make sure you enjoy a traditional khantok dinner, which is a great to familiarize yourself with the culture, music and dance and of course, food from Northern Thailand. A khantok is a round wooden tray on legs on which food is served to people sitting on the floor. The dishes typically served at a khantok dinner include sticky rice and a variety of curries. People use their hand to pick up some rice and dip each handful of rice into the curry or sauce of their choice.
KAD Performing Arts Centre is one of the most popular places for cultural entertainment in Chiang Mai. It includes a theatre and a playhouse and is known for local Thai (dramatic and musical) and imported productions.
Chiang Mai also has other entertainment facilities, including nightclubs, discotheques, concert halls, cinemas, museums and the like.
