Sightseeing in Interlaken

Interlaken probably rates as one of Switzerland’s most popular tourist destinations, yet it is devoid of ‘tourist attractions’. The castle is the only interesting sight within Interlaken.

But the outskirts of town – the mountains, lakes and rivers and nearby towns - are rich in legendary sights that provide many a photo opportunity.

Stroll along Höheweg and have a look at some of the shops and older buildings. Or ramble into the adjacent village of Unterseen , which has interesting old houses.

Although not so well known, the Schloss Interlaken has enough history attached to it to make it worth a visit. Built on the site of the original Augustinian monastery, the Schloss dates back to the mid-18th century. The Schloss stands beside the grassy park known as the Höhematte where medieval monks once pastured their cattle, and adjoins the half-ruined Schlosskirche , the castle’s church. The church is of Gothic design, and has an unusual feature - each of its windows is of a different design.

A recent tourist attraction added to picturesque Interlaken is the unusual Mystery Park . Located on a former military airfield, this theme park offers a chance to experience and explore some of the greatest and the most bizarre mysteries of the world. It is quite literally a journey of discovery and delves into the unknown. With theme pavilions, cafeterias, picnic spots, game centers, screening of mystery movies - there is something for everyone at this unique adventure park.
