The Balearic Islands are tailor-made for tourists, and an important part of the substantial tourism infrastructure consists of the many eateries and bars which are scattered across the islands. Although you will find restaurants serving international cuisines- including Asian and fast food- by far the best is the local cooking. Traditional cooking in the Balearics features lots of fresh ingredients- especially seafood, rabbit, pork and vegetables- and a wide variety of sweets, including pastries of various kinds. Particularly famous are the soups of Mallorca. Most restaurants and bars, besides serving the more common wines and spirits, also serve local tipples, such as palo, which is brewed from carob beans.
The Balearics, especially the larger islands of Ibiza and Mallorca, have lots to offer in the way of entertainment. All large towns and resorts have discotheques, nightclubs, bars, cinemas and theatres, and Magaluf (near Palma, on Mallorca) even has a popular casino. Many restaurants feature live shows, and there is, during the summers, a spate of concerts, theatrical performances and cultural shows to cater to the hordes of tourists which hit the Balearics at this time. For more details on what’s happening in the Balearics, try and get hold of a copy of the English publication The Bulletin- it’s pretty informative.
