The village-sized suburbs of Muizenberg, St James, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and Simon's Town all lie on the Atlantic side of the peninsula.
Simon’s Town is halfway down the drive to the Cape, and is South Africa's principal naval base. It is the country's third-oldest European settlement and is a lovely little town with an almost perfectly preserved streetscape. The naval dockyard and scores of naval cadets give the place its distinct character.
