What to Pack
Photography enthusiasts claim that few continents in the world rival Africa for the amazing quality of light and the range of wildlife and cultural photo opportunities – South Africa is no exception; so don’t forget your camera or camcorder. Insect repellent to ward off mosquitoes and other bugs is invaluable. Binoculars and a torch are other basic equipment for safaris and wildlife tours. Any personal medicines should be included in your luggage, as well as sunscreen products and anti-malaria pills.

Travel Documents
Passports must be valid for six months after the intended date of return from South Africa. Visitors must have a return ticket. Visas are not required by citizens of many countries, but as these rules keep changing it would be wise to check with the SA embassy in your country of residence.

Tourist info Centers
All major South African cities and international airports have well-informed tourist centers equipped to deal with all sorts of travel-related queries, from bus passes to entertainment options. In Johannesburg, the national tourism authority, Satour, has a desk at the airport, as well as one on the corner of Market and Kruis Sts in the city center. The tourist office in Cape Town is Tourist Rendezvous, which has a Captour desk at the main train station. The National Parks Board offices are on the corner of Long and Hout Sts, and the Cape Nature Conservation is at 1, Dorp St. In Durban, the main information is in Tourist Junction on the corner of Pine and Gardiner Sts. Tourist Junction also has an office that takes reservation for both the Natal Parks Board and the National Parks Board.
