‘Lima; the city of the kings’
Lima is the perfect place to start your foray into the fabled land of Peru. This flat city has many historic monuments and to add to this it has a vibrant nightlife, probably the best in the country. The capital of Peru, Lima is a highly populated city as a result of which it is overcrowded noisy and polluted. People from other parts of the country throng to this city in search of jobs. However since unemployment is prevalent, most people end up living in the pueblos jovenes. But don’t let that deter you.
Lima is a city where if you scratch beneath the surface you will discover great museums, ritzy restaurants and glitzy nightlife. So go on spend a couple of days in Lima on your way to Machu Picchu. We guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Because of the Humboldt Current, Lima is covered in fog seven months of the year. Lima gets very little rain throughout the year and the sky is almost always overcast.
Lima is home to the oldest higher learning institution in the New World, San Marcos University founded in 1551.
The Lima Bean gets its name from this city, where it originated.
In downtown Lima, there is a large statue of the friendly bear Winnie the Pooh, dedicated to all the children.
Though crime rate is down in the city, it would be wise to take precautions. For example, when visiting an ATM, try to do so in the day time. At night there may be miscreants lurking around.
