How to get there by Air
Norway’s main gateway- as far as air travel is concerned- is Oslo’s international airport, which is linked by various airlines to other countries. Most destinations from which you can get direct flights to Oslo lie within Europe, so if you want to fly to Norway from outside the continent, you’ll need to get to a major European airport first. There are smaller international airports at a few other Norwegian cities, including Trondheim, Stavanger and Bergen, but flights to these are fewer.

How to get there by Rail
Most trains coming to Norway arrive in Oslo, although some trains also run to Trondheim and Narvik from Stockholm in Sweden. To Oslo, there are regular trains from Copenhagen (Denmark), Helsingborg (Sweden) and Stockholm. NSB (Norwegian State Railways) operates international services from Oslo to Stockholm, from Oslo via Malmo and Copenhagen to Hamburg and Berlin, between Trondheim and Ostersund, and from Narvik to Stockholm.

How to get there by Road
If you’re coming from either Finland or Sweden (two of the three countries which have land frontiers with Norway), you can arrive by road. International highways and secondary roads link the three nations, and there are regular bus services to Norway, Oslo in particular from both Finland as well as Sweden. Eurolines runs regular coach services from other European countries to Norway.

How to get there by Sea
Norway is approachable by sea from a number of ports across Europe, some of them as far away as the UK. There are regular catamaran services (combined with buses part of the way) from Murmansk (in Russia); and ferries from Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Fjord Line, Color Line and Stena Line that offer services to/from Norway.

Getting Around
By Air
Norway has a total of about 50 airports and landing strips across the country, and an extensive network of air services. Three largest airlines (Norwegian Air Shuttle, SAS Scandinavian Airlines and Ryanair) operate domestic flights; flying is usually the best option, because of Norway’s size: it really cuts down on the time you’ll spend aboard a train or bus. There are however no air routes between the cities within 200 km from Oslo, use the train or bus for getting to these cties. All three airlines often have special rates- heavily discounted- during the summers, so remember to check before buying your tickets.
By Road
Norway’s roads are usually not subjected to heavy traffic, so driving can be a pleasure, and a good way to see the countryside. Cars- for city driving and for longer distances- can be hired in most large cities, but rates tend to be steep. If you do want to travel by road, the bus network in Norway is a good alternative- the Norway Bus Express network covers all of the country and gets you to even small villages. Timekspressen and FFR / Veolia Transport Nord (northern Norway) and Norway Bus Express are the biggest operators. Fjord also runs some express routes. For those who intend to travel a lot, the Norway Bus Pass- available from travel agents both within and outside Norway- is highly recommended.
By Train
The Norwegian State Railway operates trains in Norway, and although the network is not extensive, it’s reliable and efficient. The main lines link Oslo to Stavanger, Bergen, Bodø and Åndalsnes, with some trains coming from across the border as well, from Sweden and Finland. Most long distance trains leave several times a day. You can buy a Norwegian Rail Pass to travel cheap by train through Norway.
By Waterways
Trips- whether for pleasure or otherwise- along the coasts of Norway, are common, with a number of catamaran and ferry companies operating regular services along the coasts. Offshore islands, fjords and coastal towns are linked by ferry, with daily runs. Service and prices are comparable with trains. Check in advance if you want to bring a bicycle.
