Festivals and Events in New Zealand

New Zealand has lots of festivals and regattas throughout the year and one of the most exciting ones is the JMb Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta in January/February- a time of festivals and entertainment throughout the city. It's great time to be there to see true Kiwi urban culture.

The Festival of Lights in December in New Plymouth sees the town light up with a fantastic display at Pukekura Park over Christmas.

The Golden Shears Sheep Shearing Competition in Masterton is a major event and if you're around at the time, do try and catch it.

The Pasafika Polynesian Festival in Auckland in March is a grand display of Polynesian culture – the NZ version. Everything from sports, art, music, dance, food and entertainment is there to be savoured.

All provinces have their own smaller festivals, which are mentioned in the newspapers and magazines. Basically, something is happening all the time so whenever and wherever you go, there's always something special to do.
