Sightseeing in Netherlands

The obvious Top Ten for Dutch sights would include the windmills, the blooming tulip bulbs, the castles and cathedrals, street and antique markets, museums and the endearing folk customs and festivals.

In Amsterdam you can start with the many museums holding treasures of art. The Rijksmuseum is a must see for the genuine art lover. It holds an impressive collection of Rembrandts and Vermeer, besides old Dutch master paintings. A visit to Anne Frankhuis takes you back to the 1940’s and has records of the Holocaust. Take a walk to Dam square and get a feel of the city with its numerous shops and street performers. For the more daring and inquisitive visitor, an excursion to the city’s world famous red light district would be an education in itself – a strange but fascinating phenomenon to view. If you prefer education of a more conservative brand, Amsterdam’s many opera houses, theatres or churches should fit your bill completely.

Venture out of the city and take in the breathtaking beauty of the tulip fields and the windmill dotted countryside. Visit the villages of Edam or Gouda to see how the cheese on your table is made.

Take a trip to industrialised Rotterdam the largest port in the world and take in the innovative architecture of this city. The Hague is the world centre of international justice as also the seat of government of the Dutch. Delft is famed for its blue pottery and should be included in your list of sights to see.
