What to Pack
Apart from the no-brainers such as toiletries, camera and moisturizer, don’t forget a wind and waterproof coat or an umbrella, as sudden showers are the order of the day. A pair of sturdy walking shoes is useful as most of Amsterdam can be seen on foot. Camera batteries and medications should be taken from your home country itself as both these items are pretty expensive in Amsterdam. Carrying along guide books and phrasebooks are a nice way to familiarize yourself with the city and its language.
It is also a good idea to carry a sweater due to blustery weather. Even during the summer months, packing a light jacket is recommended. Although Amsterdam is the ‘Party Capital of Europe,’ dressing up in this city mustn’t be taken for granted. It is advisable to wear clothes which aren’t ‘offensive,’ even by European standards.
