Eating Out in Morocco

Moroccan food has everything one needs for a truly pleasurable dining experience. What’s more, being well-tune to the needs of tourism, most Moroccan cities take the restaurant and eatery business quite seriously, so you will never be at a loss to find a place that suits your taste and budget.

Couscous, an old delicacy probably of Berber origin is the main Moroccan dish. Beef is the most commonly eaten red meat in Morocco; lamb is another favourite among the Moroccans but is a bit dearer. Poultry and seafood are also part of Moroccan food. Pastilla (also spelled Bsteeya or Bestilla), Tajine, Tanjia and Harira are other famous delicacies of the country.

Casablanca is known for its open-air cafes, while Fes and Marrakesh hide the most delicious secrets in the winding streets of their medinas. From food stalls to gourmet restaurants, Morocco has the whole range, so whether you decide to pamper yourself or just have a quick tasty snack, you will be spoilt for choice. There are also some great patisseries and ice-cream parlours in the bigger cities. From French and Italian dishes to Oriental and authentic local cuisines, Morocco puts forward a wide array of dishes which is surely a treat to your appetite.

As far as nightlife in Morocco is concerned, Casablanca, Agadir and Marrakesh have some decent nightclubs, but they tend to be pricey. There are numerous bars and open-air cafes - some with live music, in the other Moroccan cities. Some of the popular bars and nightclubs in Morocco are Café du Livre and Café Du Grand Balcon in Marrakesh, Café Central in Tangier, Beach Cafés and Palace in Agadir, and Café Alba and Black House in Casablanca.
