Cozumel an alluring Caribbean island is the largest inhabited island in Mexico. It was a sleepy, fishing community. But all that changed when scuba divers became fascinated with the island since a Jacques Cousteau documentary on the treasures of the deep was made in 1961. It is now an attractive and affordable tourist destination with its charming people, cultural sights, shopping, dining, beaches and waterside activities. Most people in the island are of Mayan origin.
Today people come in droves to this holiday destination to soak up the sun and swim in the brilliantly clear waters that gently lap on the fine sandy beaches of Cozumel.

One word of advice: drink only bottled water here. It is recommended that you even use bottled water while brushing your teeth.
